Through the extreme experience of the Maui wildfires, I got to witness the true power of community, of 'ohana, and just how connected we all are. We have a profound influence on each other, sometimes without even realizing it, and it is only through reliance on one another that we can achieve great things.

These repetitive, meditative patterns became a way for me to process the fires, evacuating, the connections made and broken during that time, and the deep feelings this experience stirred.

Painted with Hawai'ian 'Alaea red clay, harvested directly from the slopes of Haleakala on the island of Maui, this pigment is a direct experience of this place. Haleakala is revered as a very sacred volcano, and Maui endlessly offers her healing to all those who are fortunate to be with her. Her waters, soils, flowers, fruits, and people give so much to so many, year after year. This painting is a small way to give back to the people of Maui.
